Dr. Eldridge Powell is beginning his 4th year as the principal of Rockdale County High School. He is a native of Jamaica and is in his 24th year in Education. Prior to joining Rockdale County High School, Dr. Powell served as an assistant principal at Dutchtown High School in Henry County from 2016-2019. Before his administrative appointments Dr. Powell served as a high school mathematics teacher, department chair, and instructional coach. His prior teaching experiences include tenures in Jamaica, NYC Department of Education, DeKalb County School District, Atlanta Public Schools, and Henry County Schools.
Dr. Powell completed his undergraduate degree in Mathematics at the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus, Jamaica. He completed the Master of Arts degree in Educational Leadership at Excelsior College, New York, and the Doctor of Education degree in Administrator Leadership at Walden University. Dr. Powell completed certification programs in leadership at the University of West Georgia, and Metro RESA.
Dr. Powell has been a resident of Rockdale County for the past 15 years. He is married to wife Lisa and has children Rae-Kahlile, Mekhel, and Amaya. Dr. Powell is excited about the opportunity to serve in his community and looks forward to working collaboratively with all stakeholders to make Rockdale County High School a world class institution of teaching and learning.
